Neurologic disease has long been recognized as a manifestation of all stages of HIV infection; still, the rates and characteristics of neurologic findings in acute HIV infection have not been well defined. Now, investigators in Thailand have conducted a prospective neurologic and neuropsychologic assessment of a cohort of patients with acute HIV disease identified between 2009 and 2014. Participants were followed from study entry (when the presence of acute infection was identified) through 12 weeks of combination antiretroviral therapy; 139 of 197 patients had complete neurologic data.
