Lactation consultants, considered trusted advisors to breast-feeding women, may be asked about postpartum contraception. But can they provide evidence-based advice? A convenience sample of 194 self-identified practicing lactation consultants (mean age, 44; predominantly white with college or graduate degrees) was surveyed via social media platforms or in person at a California breast-feeding conference. Most (83%) were certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultants; about half had <5 years' experience and 18% had >15 years' experience.
