Using data from a children's hospital and a regional poison control center in Colorado, researchers compared the incidence of unintentional marijuana exposures in children younger than 10 years during the 2-year periods before and after the state legalized recreational marijuana.
During 2009 through 2015, 81 children (median age, 2.4 years) were evaluated for marijuana exposure at the hospital. The rate of marijuana-related visits increased significantly from 1.2 per 100,000 population in the 2 years before legalization to 2.3 in the 2 years after.
