In an early tandem colonoscopy study, full-spectrum endoscopy (FUSE) decreased miss rates for adenomas and polyps compared with standard colonoscopy. In the current study, 672 participants of a population-based screening program in Italy who had positive fecal immunochemical tests (FITs) were randomized to FUSE or standard forward-viewing colonoscopy.
The adenoma detection rates were similar between the FUSE and standard-scope groups (43.6% and 45.5%, respectively), as were advanced adenoma detection rates (19.5% and 23.9%). The prevalence of serrated polyps was also similar between groups.
