Treatment for patients with metastatic prostate cancer has historically been limited to managing symptoms associated with local progression, such as hematuria and obstruction. During the past decade, the results of a number of studies evaluating the role of radical prostatectomy in this setting suggest that the prostate is a treatment sanctuary.
