Pre- and postoperative chemotherapy in combination with surgery for gastric cancer is a global standard of care. However, a means of identifying patients at high risk for recurrence is unknown.
To determine the prognostic value of nodal status and response to preoperative chemotherapy in this setting, UK investigators conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with resectable gastroesophageal cancer from the landmark randomized phase III MAGIC trial (NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Nov 2006 and N Engl J Med 2006; 355:11).
