Since 2015, endovascular thrombectomy has been a treatment option for patients with acute ischemic stroke. Although several trials demonstrated improved outcomes after the procedure, some were terminated early, resulting in relatively small sample sizes.
To obtain a clearer picture from the data, researchers performed a meta-analysis of five trials involving 1287 participants. The primary outcome was disability at 3 months, measured as a shift on the modified Rankin scale. Patients' mean age was about 67 years, and 47% were women.
