As symptoms do not always correlate with objective measures in achalasia (as with many esophageal diseases), improved objective metrics are sought for postintervention assessment of treatment success. In the current study, researchers tested the accuracy of two novel metrics — bolus flow time (BFT) and esophagogastric contractile interval (EGCI) — and two established metrics — esophagogastric junction pressure (EGJP) and integrated relaxation pressure (IRP) — in assessing clinical outcomes after achalasia treatment.
