Duodenal cancer, the most common site of adenocarcinoma of the small bowel, is rare, and despite limited data, treatment is modeled on that of colon cancer. Retrospective studies suggest a potential benefit for adjuvant chemotherapy after surgical resection. Widely varying rates of local tumor recurrence have been reported, and the potential role of adjuvant radiation therapy has not been defined.
Investigators now report outcomes for patients in the National Cancer Data Base with resected duodenal adenocarcinoma who received either adjuvant chemotherapy or combined chemoradiotherapy from 1998 to 2012.
