Investigators conducted an international trial to determine if vaccinating 9–14-year-old boys and girls with two doses of 9-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine given 6 or 12 months apart is noninferior to the traditional three-dose series given to girls and women ages 16 to 26 years. Five cohorts (of roughly 300 participants each) were studied: 9–14-year-old girls vaccinated at 0 and 6 months; 9–14-year-old boys vaccinated at 0 and 6 months; 9–14-year-old girls and boys vaccinated at 0 and 12 months; 9–14-year-old girls vaccinated at 0, 2, and 6 months; and 16–26-year-old girls and women vaccinated at 0, 2, and 6 months. Antibody titers were measured 1 month after receipt of the last dose in the series.
