The incidence of hepatocellular cancer (HCC) is steadily increasing in the U.S., and HCC is the second leading cause of cancer-related death globally. The only approved agent to treat advanced HCC is sorafenib, a multitargeted tyrosine inhibitor with disease-stabilizing benefits and limited impact on patient survival.
Investigators now report results of an industry-sponsored, international, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trial (RESORCE) of regorafenib (a multitargeted tyrosine-kinase inhibitor with a spectrum of kinase inhibition similar to that of sorafenib).
