Preeclampsia can affect the retina during pregnancy, but what about in subsequent years? To evaluate the relation between preeclampsia and risk for retinopathy in later adult life, investigators studied hospital records of >1 million women in Quebec who delivered between 1989 and 2013. A total of 64,350 women had preeclampsia (19,383 and 44,967 with severe or mild disease, respectively; 5034 and 59,316 with onset before or after 34 weeks' gestation). Adjusted analysis took into account maternal age, parity, socioeconomic status, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia.
