Recent guidelines, including those from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and WHO, recommend limiting added sugar intake to less than 10% of daily calories. In this systematic review, researchers funded by the food and beverage industry examined guidelines published since 1995 on sugar intake, using standard quality-assessment instruments (i.e., AGREE II and GRADE). Among >5000 publications, nine guidelines met inclusion criteria, including those of the USDA, Institute of Medicine, and WHO, and those from several other countries.
