Research on statin use in Alzheimer disease (AD) has been mixed. In this study, researchers analyzed sex-based and racial differences in statin and incidence of AD in 399,979 Medicare recipients aged ≥65 years without baseline AD. The study included 7794 black men, 24,484 black women, 11,200 Hispanic men, 21,458 Hispanic women, 115,059 white men, and 195,181 white women. High exposure to statin use was determined by the 50th percentile of filled prescriptions for simvastatin, atorvastatin, pravastatin, and rosuvastatin per year for at least 2 years between 2006 and 2008. Incident AD was based on Medicare claims between 2009 and 2013.
