Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has been recommended for prevention of HPV infections, including HPV-related cancers and warts, since 2006 in females and 2011 in males. A three-dose series at intervals of 0, 1 through 2, and 6 months was recommended, with earliest age at initiation, 9 years (preferred age, 11–12 years) and catchup between 13 and 18 years. In the U.S, this is the most underutilized vaccine in the universal schedule.
New recommendations revise the dosing schedule, the recommended age of initiation, and procedures for vaccination after the preferred age. The revised schedule of a two-dose series for 9- to 14-year-olds at 0 and ≥6 months has been shown to be as immunogenic and effective as the three-dose schedule. The FDA…
