The professional life surveys conducted decennially by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) since 1996 provide useful insights about ACC physician members. Results of the third survey, completed in 2015, have now been reported.
Of the 2313 physicians completing the survey, 964 were women (42%) and 1349 were men (58%). Compared with 10 and 20 years ago, substantially fewer cardiologists responded to the survey (31%, 49%, and 21%, respectively). The new survey found an aging cardiology workforce, with a significantly greater percentage of respondents aged ≥60. Cardiologists were less likely to be in private practice than in earlier surveys and to report practicing noninvasive, noninterventional cardiology, continuing a trend noted in 2006.…
