Aminoglycosides are well known to be nephrotoxic. To determine whether prior aminoglycoside therapy is a risk factor for acute kidney injury (AKI) during current aminoglycoside therapy, researchers examined serum creatinine concentrations in a retrospective cohort of children (age range, 1 month to 18 years) who received aminoglycosides at a Canadian children's hospital from 2008 to 2012. Patients with prior renal disease or acute renal conditions were excluded.
