Recent data have shown that interferon-free direct antiviral agents (DAAs) are not only effective, but also safe for hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients after kidney transplantation (NEJM JW Gastroenterol Feb 2017 and Ann Intern Med 2017; 166:109). It is thought that DAAs do not precipitate kidney rejection, which has been reported with interferon-based therapies. However, the safety of DAA regimens has been demonstrated only in small case series.
