This evidence-based consensus statement addresses the clinical use of video capsule endoscopy (VCE) in the clinical and economic climate of North America.

What's Changed

VCE can provide visualization of the small-bowel mucosa that is not accessible to standard upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. A 2015 European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) guideline on small-bowel endoscopy included other endoscopic modalities (Endoscopy 2015; 47:352). This guideline is limited to the use of VCE in conditions common in North America.
