The 2014 outbreak of Ebola in three West African countries took the world by surprise and resulted in a reported 11,000 deaths. Once the outbreak was contained, many reports were written about the response to and lessons learned from the management of this outbreak. Now, a group of public health experts, some of whom are involved in developing new public health initiatives, have analyzed seven of the more extensive of these reports. The authors make recommendations for improvement and draw conclusions about future needs and impediments to addressing those needs.
