Electronic tools for chromoendoscopy during colonoscopy have largely been unsuccessful in improving adenoma detection. The current report is the second showing positive results for blue-laser imaging with regard to adenoma detection.
Across eight academic centers in Japan, researchers randomized 1003 patients aged ≥40 years to undergo colonoscopy with blue-laser imaging or conventional white-light imaging. Colonoscopy indications included polypectomy, postsurgical cancer surveillance, polyp surveillance, or screening. In patients referred for polypectomy, only the index lesion targeted for polypectomy was excluded.
