Previous meta-analyses show that cap-assisted colonoscopy improves detection of small adenomas. Cap-assisted refers to placement of a short cap or hood on the colonoscope tip that is used to flatten folds and examine their proximal aspects. Detection of right colon lesions is of particular interest because colonoscopy provides less protection against right-sided compared with left-sided colon cancer.
