Update on transgender issues in psychiatry. With transgender mental health issues receiving more attention and larger numbers of individuals presenting for care, this timely review of transgender psychiatric issues with an emphasis on neurocognitive issues is of considerable interest.1 Trans individuals experience high rates of depressive and anxiety disorders and elevated risks for suicide, suicidality, and nonsuicidal self-injury, all of which may be reduced by medical, surgical, and psychiatric interventions.
