Obesity causes frailty in older adults, but weight loss might promote loss of muscle and bone mass, and the relative merits of aerobic and resistance exercise are unclear. Investigators conducted a trial in 141 obese sedentary older adults (age, ≥65) with mild-to-moderate frailty on a formal Physical Performance Test, which included assessments of walking, stair-climbing, fine motor skills, strength, and balance. Participants were assigned to one of three exercise groups (aerobic, resistance, or combined) or a nonexercise control group.
