While the rate of mortality from ischemic stroke has decreased in adults aged 65 and older, the rate among younger adults has been rising, according to population-based studies. To examine more recent trends, investigators have now analyzed U.S. data on hospitalization for acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, or subarachnoid hemorrhage in adults aged 18 to 64 from 2003 to 2012. From these data, they extrapolated the prevalence of five traditional vascular risk factors among patients with these stroke types.
