Predicting which child with atopic dermatitis will develop other atopic diseases is a challenge. Researchers followed 1038 children from a rural European birth cohort born between 2002 and 2005. Onset and progression of atopic dermatitis were evaluated by physical examination at age 1 and 6 years and parental reports at multiple times from birth to 6 years. Allergic rhinitis, food allergy, and asthma were also reported by parents or assessed by researchers throughout the study.
