The world soccer (football) association, Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), mandated in 2012 that all players showing any sign of concussion should be removed from play and evaluated on the sideline by healthcare professionals. Researchers evaluated adherence to this directive during the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament. Four trained appraisers used video footage to assess concussion signs and subsequent care in all 64 matches of the World Cup; they reached complete agreement on the presence of ≥1 signs of concussion (e.g., slowness in getting up, disorientation, disequilibrium, loss of consciousness, seizure activity, holding one's head).
