The Back-to-Sleep campaign has been effective in reducing the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS); however, as many as 3500 infants still die from SIDS annually. To determine effective interventions to encourage parent adherence to infant safe sleeping practices, researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial involving over 1200 mothers of healthy term babies born in one of 16 U.S. hospitals.
