Integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based therapies are increasingly favored over earlier antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens because of their favorable efficacy and safety profiles. However, long-term experience with INSTI regimens is still relatively limited.
After observing weight gain in several HIV patients who switched treatment regimens from efavirenz/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (EFV/TDF/FTC) to dolutegravir/abacavir/lamivudine (DTG/ABC/3TC), investigators at Vanderbilt conducted a retrospective analysis of 495 patients who had received EFV/TDF/FTC for ≥2 years and had achieved virologic suppression.
