Verbal and physical aggression — commonly associated with alcohol and substance use disorders, borderline personality disorders, manic states, and psychotic episodes — has not been well studied in the setting of major depression. As part of a study of bipolar “mixed state” symptoms in depression, investigators examined data from 2811 patients seen at 239 centers in 8 European and Middle Eastern countries to determine the likelihood and significance of aggression during major depressive episodes.
