Dilation in Eosinophilic Esophagitis Is Safe, Even in Patients with Previous Complications

Esophageal dilation is typically required for treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in patients with strictures and dysphagia. Significant mucosal disruption typically accompanies the procedure and can cause concern about increased risk for adverse events.

In the current study from a single center with expertise in esophageal dilation, researchers evaluated risk for esophageal complications of dilation for EoE in eight patients who had previous complications from esophageal dilation performed at other institutions and 22 patients without previous complications.
