Cisplatin-based multi-agent chemotherapy can cure a subset of patients with metastatic urothelial cancer. However, it can be used in only 40% to 50% of patients, given the high prevalence of those with comorbidities and poor disease-related performance status. Both atezolizumab and pembrolizumab were granted accelerated FDA approval for patients with disease progression following platinum-based therapy and, more recently, for those ineligible to receive cisplatin.
