The “resect and discard” policy of performing optical biopsy on diminutive polyps during colonoscopy and disposing of lesions predicted to be tubular adenomas, while leaving distal colon hyperplastic polyps in place, is seldom practiced because results have been inconsistent among community-based endoscopists. The solution to this variation in optical biopsy skills and performance is artificial intelligence, which is ideally suited to image analysis.
