It is now well established that endoscopic resection of benign colorectal polyps results in lower costs, morbidity, and mortality compared with surgical resection.
In a retrospective study, researchers in the Netherlands assessed trends in the annual volume of surgical resection of benign colorectal polyps between 2005 and 2015. Nearly 6000 of these procedures were performed in total, and the rates varied between 0.2% to 0.4% per colonoscopy per year and were stable over time.
