Recent case reports indicated risk for reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in chronically HBV-infected patients undergoing treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs). The FDA has issued a black box warning that patients undergoing DAA therapy should get baseline testing to identify and manage those with chronic HBV infection.
In an industry-funded phase IIIB study, researchers in Taiwan evaluated the risks and outcomes of HCV treatment with daily combination sofosbuvir-ledipasvir for 12 weeks in 111 patients coinfected with HBV.
