Surveillance vs. Metastasis-Directed Therapy for Oligometastatic Prostate Cancer

Oligometastatic prostate cancer has been characterized in a variety of ways, including as an intermediate state of cancer spread between localized disease and widespread metastases and as relapsing prostate cancer with ≤3 metastatic sites. To date, much of the data regarding management of the disease comes from retrospective series using a number of different therapeutic approaches.

Now, investigators have conducted a prospective, multicenter, randomized, phase II study to compare the effectiveness and safety of surveillance versus metastasis-directed therapy (MDT) in 62 patients with oligorecurrent prostate cancer.
