Colorectal cancer risk is increased by 5 to 10 times in adults with cystic fibrosis compared with the general population, and this risk accelerates to a 25-to-30-fold increase after lung transplantation. In a new set of consensus recommendations, a task force proposes the following with regard to colorectal cancer screening and surveillance in patients with cystic fibrosis.
Patients should begin screening with colonoscopy at age 40 years, and 5-year intervals are recommended.
