Approximately 20% of hospital readmissions are thought to be preventable, but models aimed at predicting readmission typically exclude patient-experience data. Furthermore, most interventions to prevent readmissions have focused on the postdischarge period. In this 4-year prospective cohort study of ≈900 patients on two internal medicine units at Massachusetts General Hospital, researchers assessed the association between patient perceptions of care and odds of 30-day readmission.
