Fifty years after the development of the Hunt Hess Scale — a clinical grading system for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) — the task of predicting patient outcomes remains challenging and relies largely on the vagaries of a clinician's often fallible judgment.
Now, investigators have developed a new clinical prediction model for aneurysmal SAH using a derivation cohort of 10,936 SAH patients and a validation cohort of 3355 SAH patients, drawn from multiple randomized trials, prospective cohorts, and hospital registries in the Subarachnoid Haemorrhage International Trialists' data repository (Neurocrit Care 2014; 21:551).
