In the Therapeutic Hypothermia after Pediatric Cardiac Arrest trial, children with nontraumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) admitted to 36 pediatric intensive care units in the U.S. and Canada were randomized to therapeutic hypothermia (33.0°C) or therapeutic normothermia (36.8°C). No difference was found between groups in rates of survival with good neurobehavioral outcome at 12 months (NEJM JW Pediatr Adolesc Med Mar 2017 and N Engl J Med 2017; 376:318). The investigators conducted a secondary analysis to evaluate whether early hypotension is associated with survival to discharge. Early hypotension was defined as systolic pressure less than the 5th percentile for age and sex in the first 6 hours after temperature intervention.
