For HIV Patients, Which Cardiovascular Disease Risk Prediction Model Is Accurate?

People with HIV have an elevated number of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and a higher risk for CVD events. Yet, whether current CVD risk prediction models accurately assess risk in HIV patients remains unknown. To answer this question, investigators used three widely used models to retrospectively evaluate 5-year CVD risk in 1272 HIV-positive men. Two models were from the Framingham Heart Study, on risks for coronary heart disease and atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD); the third was the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association ASCVD model.
