Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with multiple gastrointestinal disorders, including peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, and gastric cancer. Its prevalence varies geographically and has been changing with treatment and economic development. To assess the worldwide distribution of H. pylori infection, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of data from 183 studies that include over 400,000 patients from 73 different countries.
The prevalence of H. pylori was 44% overall and varied greatly by geographic location.
