With the recent expansion of the time window for acute stroke intervention, there is increased need for acute stroke expertise and a shortage of neurologists, particularly vascular neurologists. Remote patient evaluation using telemedicine (“telestroke”) is well established. However, due to lack of direct contact between the neurologist and the patient during the physical exam, identification of stroke mimics can be challenging. These authors evaluated 1930 telestroke consultations from several large networks. They attempted to verify the utility of several variables that were identified from the Partners (Boston) telestroke program as being more prevalent in stroke mimics.
