In searching for biomarkers of antidepressant response, researchers have examined clinical-behavioral ratings; neurocognitive testing; genomic, genetic, and proteomic profiling; tests of inflammatory markers; structural and functional MRI (fMRI); and electroencephalography. Based on research suggesting that two subtypes of depression are related to the presence or absence of connectivity between the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and anterior cingulate cortex/medial prefrontal cortex (ACC/mPFC), investigators examined fMRIs of 75 unmedicated patients with nonpsychotic major depression and 31 healthy controls.
