Molar pregnancies are typically managed with vacuum aspiration, and in countries with limited access to electric aspiration, manual aspiration is the more common method. To compare the two approaches, Brazilian investigators conducted a retrospective cohort study including 1727 women with molar pregnancies who underwent electric or manual vacuum aspiration. After aspiration of either type, gentle sharp curettage was performed to ensure complete uterine evacuation (incomplete evacuation was determined with clinical, hormonal, ultrasonographic, and, if necessary, hysteroscopic criteria).
