The cumulative incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) has emerged as a serious complication in patients undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), but its clinical impact is uncertain because the patient population is heterogeneous and treatment is nonstandardized.
To examine the incidence and characteristics of VTE in this setting, European investigators conducted a retrospective analysis of 1772 patients (aged 1–45 years) receiving the standard Nordic Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (NOPHO) ALL2008 protocol for the treatment of Philadelphia-chromosome–negative ALL.
