The CDC last published guidelines on the use of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in 2014. The new guidelines incorporate updated evidence on the safety and efficacy of PrEP and make changes regarding baseline laboratory evaluation and clinical monitoring.
PrEP is indicated for men who have sex with men (MSM), heterosexual individuals, and people who inject drugs (PWID) who have a high risk for HIV infection.
