Chemotherapy for Isolated Locoregional Recurrence of Breast Cancer

Long-term results confirm a benefit for ER-negative but not ER-positive patients.

Initial 5-year results from a prior, open-label, randomized trial of adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) for breast cancer patients with isolated locoregional recurrence (ILRR) showed significant benefit of CT versus no CT for those with estrogen receptor (ER)-negative but not ER-positive disease (CALOR; Lancet Oncol 2014; 15:156).

Now, investigators report results at a median 9 years of follow-up for 162 patients with completely excised breast cancer; those with microscopically involved surgical margins received radiotherapy.
