Candida infection is a common finding on upper endoscopy in patients with dysphagia, odynophagia, or both. In a single-center case series, researchers examined clinical characteristics and outcomes in 218 immunocompetent patients with biopsy-diagnosed esophageal candidiasis. Results were as follows:
About half (111) had a potential explanation for dysphagia beyond candidiasis, while the rest had isolated candidiasis as the only esophageal endoscopic finding.
