In a placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind study, children aged 7 to 17 years with anxiety disorders had excellent outcomes with sertraline, cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), or their combination, both after the 12-week protocol (NEJM JW Psychiatry Dec 2008 and N Engl J Med 2008; 359:2753) and at 24 and 36 months afterwards (J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry 2014; 53:297). These researchers examined how 319 of these young participants (65% of baseline sample; age range, 11–25) fared on longer-term follow-up in a study beginning 4 to 12 years after the acute study.
